Behaviour and Attendance

We are very proud of our students, their attitudes to their learning and to each other. In so many ways, they are our best advertisement. Ofsted inspectors have always been very impressed by our young people. Here is what they have had to say:

"The behaviour of students is good. They treat each other with dignity and respect and engage positively with staff and visitors". Ofsted 2014

"Students are fully aware of the school's policy on the '7Rs' (respectful, responsible, reasonable, ready, resourceful, resilient and right impression). They understand the importance of these values when making choices about their behaviour". Ofsted 2014

The 7Rs of The Derby High School

The 7Rs help our students to really appreciate what it means to really understand what it means to be a good citizen. We want our students to make a difference to the world in which they live. Everyone at the Derby High School is expected to abide by the 7Rs. Through assemblies and regular discussion all students understand what it means in practice.

Our students really enjoy coming to school and their attendance is significantly above average. Our full time attendance officer keeps parents regularly updated and our first rate pastoral team are highly active in encouraging and rewarding good attendance.

Our students are on time to their lessons. Tardiness is not tolerated!

Students are given reward points for showing a commitment to their studies, and showing positive personal characteristics. Things like ‘excellent homework’, ‘exceeding targets’ and ‘dependability’ and ‘responsibility’ as well as showing a commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school. These points are then converted to prizes. Celebratory assemblies occur each term where student success is celebrated, and prizes given out. Prizes range from certificates and stationery prizes to front of the canteen queue passes and Derby High School memory sticks. Something they really appreciate.
