Maths Overview

Mathematics is an international language. Our role is to encourage, inspire and challenge our students to develop their mathematical ability so that they can handle all mathematical situations with confidence.  An enthusiastic team to promote mathematical thinking, problem solving and enjoyment with challenges in everyday life through a wide range of activities.

What do we study?

Year 7

Students are taught in sets (1-4) and are setted depending on previous attainment levels.

The course is taught in modules and functional skills tasks are embedded within the questions giving a well-balanced and broad curriculum. The course covers various aspects of Number, Algebra, Geometry and Measures and Statistics. There is a special emphasis on basic skills at each attainment level.

Year 8

The course is taught in modules and functional skills tasks are embedded within the questions giving a well-balanced and broad curriculum. The course covers various aspects of Number, Algebra, Geometry and Measures and Statistics. There is a special emphasis on basic skills at each attainment level.

Year 9

Students are setted in groups using prior attainment levels. Groups 0-4 will complete the Higher level GCSE course and groups 5-7 will complete the Foundation level course. Students start their GCSE course which follows Edexcel syllabus A Linear mathematics course. The course is taught in modules completing 1-14 in year 9. Teaching groups are continually reviewed with regular assessments.

Year 10

GCSE course continues with modules 15 - 29. Teaching groups are continually reviewed with regular assessments.

Year 11

GCSE course continues with modules 30- 33. Teaching groups are continually reviewed with regular assessments. Students will sit a mock exam in December when sets will be readjusted to ensure the best provision for each student.

100% exam. Two papers 1hr 45mins each.

Paper 1 non calculator, Paper 2 calculator.
