Studying science will broaden your understanding of the world around you, may allow you to influence and develop accepted scientific knowledge, and will give you the skills needed to approach most matters in a reasoned and analytical manner.

What do we study?

Year 7

Pupils study general Science through the following topics: Safety, Energy, Variation, Acids & Alkalis, Electricity, Reproduction, Solids Liquids & Gases, Solutions, Cells, Chemical Reactions, Environment, Forces & Space.

Year 8

Pupils study general Science through the following topics: Light, Life Support, Particles & Matter, Heating & Cooling, Keeping Healthy, Sound, People & the Environment, Metals, Moving around, Elements in the Natural World, Shaping Life

Year 9 Pupils study Science through a thematic approach emphasising Science skills using the following topics: Sport, The Cost of your Drink, Extremes, Energy, Transport of The Future, Interdependence, Earth & Space, Variation, The Carbon Cycle
Year 10

The Department offers qualifications delivered through Separate Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Core Science and Cambridge Nationals.

Year 11

The Department offers qualifications delivered through Separate Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Additional or Additional Applied Science, and Cambridge Nationals.

 

GCSE Components

Separate, Core and Additional Science: Exam 75%, Controlled Assessment 25%

Additional Applied Science: Exam 40%, Controlled Assessment 60%

Cambridge Nationals: Exam 25%, Controlled Assessment 75%
